TSDSI

Recognized by Government of India, Telecom Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) is an autonomous, membership based, Standards Development Organization (SDO) for Telecom/ICT products and services in India, taking Indian requirements to Global Standards organizations. It develops standards for access, core, back-haul and infrastructure systems, solutions and services that best meet domestic Telecom/ICT needs, based on local research and innovation.

TSDSI works closely with global standards’ bodies to reflect Indian requirements into International Telecom/ICT standards. It is focusing on strategic engagements with ecosystem players and has entered into alliances, partnerships agreements and regional-cooperation agreements with many of them (3GPP, oneM2M, GSC, IEEE-SA, ATSC, ETSI, OCF, 5G Brasil, 5G-IA, etc).

Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) is an SDO that aims at developing and promoting India-specific requirements, standardizing solutions for meeting these requirements and contributing these to international standards, contributing to global standardization in the field of telecommunications, safe-guarding the related IPR, helping create manufacturing expertise in the country etc. A consensus-based approach is followed towards standards development by involving all stake holders – Government, Academia and Industry. TSDSI follows the principles of Openness, Transparency, Fairness, Consensus and Due Process in conducting its activities. The TSDSI is not for profit legal entity in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode with participation from all stake holders including Government, service providers, equipment vendors, equipment manufacturers, academic institutes and research labs.

TSDSI aims to provide a platform to declare IP and commit for sharing the same on FRAND terms, helping create standards-based manufacturing expertise in the country and also providing guidance and leadership to developing countries. Technical activities at TSDSI are carried out in the following 2 Study Groups shown below along with their current focus areas:

Most recently, TSDSI’s 5Gi standard has been merged with the 3GPP 5G Standard. TSDSI is now working on 6G and other emerging and futuristic technology standards.

TSDSI attracts membership from all sections of Telecom/ICT ecosystem of the country, including manufacturers (OEMs, Mobile devices/CPE/UE, etc), R&D, Telecom Service Providers, Other Service Providers, Semiconductor design/manufacturers, Academics, Govt entities, etc.

With growing focus on deep-tech start-ups, TSDSI commissioned a whitepaper to study the existing challenges faced by them, analyzing areas requiring support from the government & industry bodies and also studying best practices from some of the successful nations. The white paper is available at: “Status of Telecom Start-up Ecosystem in India”.  Consequently, TSDSI created a dedicated Start-ups task force to handhold start-ups and plug them into the standards development process to evolve innovative domestic requirements and solutions. One outcome of the deliberations of this Task Force is to set up a Startups corner / portal, leading to development of this Portal (BharatDigicom).
